RochesterWithin easy reach of central London, just 25 miles away, Rochester has always been an important commercial, maritime centre and long associated with the novelist Charles Dickens. Dating from 1066, there is a famous Norman Castle, Cathedral and Guildhall in the city centre. An attractive pedestrianised city centre with interesting, individual shops are within 5 minutes walk of the school.
The King's School is located in a quiet area within a few minutes walk of the town centre.
Part of the school is located opposite Restoration House, which takes its name from the stay of King Charles II on the eve of the Restoration in 1658. It is also the house Dickens describes as the home of Miss Haversham in his novel, Great Expectations.
Many of the school buildings are listed and have historic connections with the Middle Ages. There are also new buildings such as those housing the classrooms, the hall and the swimming pool.
Sport facilities
There is a large playing field for football, volleyball and rounders. For those students who like water, there is a modern indoor swimming pool. There are also two halls suitable for sports as well as tennis court available.

There are 60 bedrooms in two houses on the campus. The smaller house, which will be used to accommodate the girls, was completely renovated in summer 2005. The larger, second house, has good size, well furnished rooms on three floors, some over looking the park and gardens.
There is also further accommodation available at the local university, which is about 20 minutes walk from the school. This accommodation is in single study bedrooms with en-suite facilities. The students staying in this accommodation will simply sleep there and take all lessons, meals, activities and excursions at King's School. Our staff will provide supervision in the accommodation as well as escorting the students to and from the school each day.
The majority of the accommodation is located in the areas of Chatham and Strood, which adjoin Rochester and students will need to take a bus to and from school each day. Weekly bus passes may be required and are between £13 - 20 per week. Families provide breakfast and dinner and a packed lunch. Hot lunch is available at a small extra charge.
